New to Yoga? Here’s What to Expect at Yoga Baum in Louisville

Trying something new can feel intimidating—especially when that “something” is yoga, and you’re not sure what to expect. At Yoga Baum, we understand that. Whether you’ve never stepped on a mat or it’s just been a while, we’re here to meet you with patience, encouragement, and a place you can feel comfortable.

You Don’t Have to Be Flexible to Start

This is the most common misconception we hear, and we get it. Social media can make yoga look like a performance. But here, yoga is about how it feels in your body, not how it looks from the outside. You can’t be “bad” at yoga. Your experience, your pace, your breath—that’s what matters.

Friendly Teachers Who Meet You Where You Are

Our teachers are trained to support beginners and experienced students alike. They’ll guide you through class with clear cues, modifications, and encouragement. Questions are welcome, and if you need to rest or adjust, that’s always okay.

If you’re looking for a gentler start, check out classes like:
🧘‍♀️ Gentle Yoga + Restorative (Mon & Fri 9am)
🕯️ Candlelight Yoga (Mon 7:30pm)
💛 Restorative Yoga (Tues & Thurs 6:45pm)
🌿 Slow Flow + Restorative (Wed 12pm and Sat & Sun 9am)

(You can read more on our Class Descriptions page.)

What to Bring and What Not to Worry About

You don’t need fancy clothes or gear. Wear something comfortable that allows you to move. We have mats and props available to borrow, and we’ll help you set them up. There’s no dress code, no experience required, and no pressure to “keep up.” Come as you are.

A Studio That Feels Like a Community

Yoga Baum isn’t just a place to practice—it’s a place to connect. Our lobby is stocked with tea, our teachers know your name, and you’ll often find folks chatting before or after class. We also offer events like Book Baum, Moon Meetings, and retreats for deeper connection (if that’s your thing).

Ready to Begin?

We know it takes courage to try something new. Our goal is to make your first class (and every class) feel welcoming, empowering, and worth returning to.
You can view our full class schedule here, or reach out if you’re not sure where to start.

You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to begin.
