Upcoming Book Baum dates and selections:
Wednesday, March 18th, 6:45pm-7:45pm
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
led by Laurie LeCompte
Read this before it hits the big screen, and you can be part of the crowd that says things like, “The book was better,” or “There was so much more in the book.” A lone astronaut. A dying Earth. A desperate mission. One man must save Earth from extinction… with help from the most unexpected ally in the galaxy. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Carmichael’s.
Wednesday, April 29th, 6:45-7:45pm
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
led by Megh Zahrndt
Our April pick is the dystopian classic that sparked a cultural phenomenon. The Handmaid’s Tale is chilling, poetic, and uncomfortably relevant. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Carmichael’s.
Wednesday, May 27th, 6:45pm-7:45pm
The Night We Met by Abby Jimenez
led by Abbey Brooks
One ride home. One different choice. One love that might have changed everything. The Night We Met is a tender, emotional story about timing, friendship, and the ache of almost. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting A Novel Romance or Carmichael’s.

What kind of books do you read for Book Baum?
All sorts, but more specifically we choose books that we enjoy or think we will enjoy or books we think will spur an interesting discussion. You can expect a variety of genres, but our facilitators’ preferences will show in their selections :)
What else should I know?
Since we will be discussing the book in depth, you can expect spoilers. You are welcome to attend and participate in the discussion—and you will not be shamed—if you do not finish the book in time. Come participate in the discussion and enjoy the community! We schedule Book Baum right after a regularly scheduled class so you also have the option of doing yoga and then sticking around for Book Baum. We will link to where you can purchase books locally so you can support Louisville’s indie bookstores! You can also check out the books from the library :) Yoga Baum members receive a discount on Book Baum—email us for your member discount code! We encourage you to read the book jacket description and to look up the trigger warnings for the selections before you decide to read them <3
