Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy
led by Abbey Brooks
Set on a remote, sinking island near Antartica in a world ravaged by climate change, Wild Dark Shore follows a family guarding the world’s largest seed bank—until a mysterious woman washes ashore and stirs secrets, grief, and a tense recking with a world on the brink. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Carmichael’s.
Wednesday, September 16th, 6:45pm-7:45pm
Fabulous Bodies by Chuck Tingle
led by Laurie LeCompte
What happens when a fashion influencer who moonlights as a grave robber discovers her latest corpse isn’t quite dead? This wild ride around Palm Springs with Chuck Tingle is what happens. This over-the-top horror romp promises gore, absurdity, and chaos in equal measure. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Butcher Cabin Books or Carmichael’s.
Wednesday, October 28th, 6:45-7:45pm
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
led by Megh Zahrndt
We love a good house book, and Silvia Moreno-Garcia delivers one of the best in this creepy tale where a glamorous young socialite finds herself trapped in a house that seems to have its own plans. Mexican Gothic is atmospheric, strange, and horrifying in all the best ways. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Carmichael’s or Butcher Cabin Books.
Wednesday, November 18th, 6:45-7:45pm
The Someday Garden by Ashley Poston
led by Abbey Brooks
A tender and magical story about love, loss, and what might grow when you give yourself a chance to begin again. This book is so cozy and heartfelt, and we think it’s perfect for late fall. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Carmichael’s or A Novel Romance.

What kind of books do you read for Book Baum?
All sorts, but more specifically we choose books that we enjoy or think we will enjoy or books we think will spur an interesting discussion. You can expect a variety of genres, but our facilitators’ preferences will show in their selections :)
What else should I know?
Since we will be discussing the book in depth, you can expect spoilers. You are welcome to attend and participate in the discussion—and you will not be shamed—if you do not finish the book in time. Come participate in the discussion and enjoy the community! We schedule Book Baum right after a regularly scheduled class so you also have the option of doing yoga and then sticking around for Book Baum. We will link to where you can purchase books locally so you can support Louisville’s indie bookstores! You can also check out the books from the library :) Yoga Baum members receive a discount on Book Baum—email us for your member discount code! We encourage you to read the book jacket description and to look up the trigger warnings for the selections before you decide to read them <3
