Wednesday, September 24th, 6:45-7:45pm

Where the Dark Stands Still by A.B. Poranek

led by Laurie LeCompte

Creepy woods, sentient houses, monstrous magic, dangerous bargains, and Slavic folklore—sounds like a recipe for an exciting fantasy we want to read with you! If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting A Novel Romance or Carmichael’s.

Wednesday, October 22nd, 6:45pm-7:45pm

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch

led by Megh Zahrndt

Peter Grant was just an ordinary police constable, that is, until he encounters a ghost and is drawn to a world of Newtonian magic, angry revenants and the new goddesses of the river Thames. If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Carmichael’s.

Wednesday, November 12th, 6:45pm-7:45pm

Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison

led by Abbey Brooks

Fantastical and real life horrors collide in this werewolf novel by Rachel Harrison! Harrison infuses this story with her wit and empowering feminist bite (pun intended). You won’t want to miss it! If you are buying this selection locally, consider supporting Butcher Cabin Books or Carmichael’s.

What is Book Baum?

Book Baum is a monthly book club led by the enthusiastic readers and teachers of Yoga Baum!

What can I expect at Book Baum?

Book Baum includes thoughtful, guided discussion, treats, community, and coziness! You will receive a discussion/topic guide to keep our conversation interesting, snacks, and a cozy beverage—coffee, tea, and hot chocolate—of your choice!

Who can come to Book Baum?

EVERYONE! Everyone is welcome at Book Baum and you do not need to be a member or to come to classes regularly to attend. Come meet your fellow book lovers <3

What kind of books do you read for Book Baum?

All sorts, but more specifically we choose books that we enjoy or think we will enjoy or books we think will spur an interesting discussion. You can expect a variety of genres, but our facilitators’ preferences will show in their selections :)

What else should I know?

Since we will be discussing the book in depth, you can expect spoilers. You are welcome to attend and participate in the discussion—and you will not be shamed—if you do not finish the book in time. Come participate in the discussion and enjoy the community! We schedule Book Baum right after a regularly scheduled class so you also have the option of doing yoga and then sticking around for Book Baum. We will link to where you can purchase books locally so you can support Louisville’s indie bookstores! You can also check out the books from the library :) Yoga Baum members receive a discount on Book Baum—email us for your member discount code! We encourage you to read the book jacket description and to look up the trigger warnings for the selections before you decide to read them <3
