The Art of Hands-On Assisting, 4/25/26

taught by Laurie LeCompte and Abbey Brooks
Refine your touch. Teach with clarity. Support students more effectively.
Hands-on assisting is one of the most nuanced and often under-taught skills in yoga teaching. When done well, it can deepen awareness, build trust, and help students access their practice in entirely new ways. When done poorly… it can feel confusing or unnecessary.
In this continuing education workshop, we’ll explore how to offer ethical, intentional, and truly meaningful assists that support rather than override a student’s experience.
We’ll explore:
how to assess when an assist is helpful (and when it isn’t)
supportive and relaxing restorative assists
safe spotting techniques for balance and load-bearing postures
assists for standing and seated poses
clear frameworks for safe physical assists across common pose families
teacher-assisted mobility, resistance stretching, and strengthening work
how touch, verbal cueing, and visual demonstration work together
how to adapt assists for different bodies, goals, and comfort levels
assisting approaches especially useful for private clients and small-group settings
Expect hands-on practice, thoughtful discussion, and immediately usable skills you can bring into class the very next day.
Ideal for yoga teachers looking to refine their teaching presence, confidence, and adaptability.
